Paul Blom is a Registered Professional Forester (Ret.) and Registered Professional Biologist. His studies include Mandarin at the Taiwan National Normal University and his 5-year tenure in Asia involves service at the Zhejiang Forest and Agriculture University in Zhejiang and with the British Columbia Trade Office in Taiwan.
Mr. Blom coordinated the development of the following province-wide First Nations plans and strategies, which form the basis of the mandate for the First Nations Energy and Mining Council, a policy organization advocating for the 203 First Nations communities in BC:
– First Nations China Strategy: Innovative Partnerships
– BC First Nations Energy Action Plan
– BC First Nations Mineral Exploration and Mining Action Plan
Mr. Blom has been involved in numerous indigenous, provincial and federal missions to China to develop trade opportunities and cultural understandings for First Nations; including the coordination of the National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations mission to China to raise a totem pole in Beichuan to commemorate the victims of the Wenchuan earthquake.
Other current projects include:
– Negotiator at the Carrier Sekani Tribal Council/Tl’azt’en Nation reconciliation table with British Columbia and Canada
– First Nations advisor on natural gas pipeline impact benefit agreement negotiations,
– Advisor for the Musqueam First Nation – Canada reconciliation framework,
– First Nations negotiator for numerous mineral exploration agreements in northern British Columbia.

Ying DU is Head of China at Mackenzie Investments. Ying is responsible for representing Mackenzie’s interests in China, building on strong relationship with local partners and driving overall growth in assets under management in the region. Ying has more than 20 years of experience in global asset management industry working in France and across Asia.
Prior to joining Mackenzie Investments, she worked for a large European asset manager and held a variety of roles including Internal Audit, Fixed Income Investments, Client services, Sales and China Chief Representative.
Ying earned her Bachelor of Arts in French Studies from Beijing Foreign Studies University and Master’s degree in Finance from Institut Superieur de Gestion in Paris.
Noah spent three years as Director of CCBC’s Ontario chapter building the chapter’s membership base and organizing bilateral delegations and events before becoming Managing Director of CCBC’s operations in China.
He has 10 years of progressive international career experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors and in multiple sectors including government, manufacturing, education and life sciences. He also was the Director of Marketing and Business Development for a manufacturer of medical devices, overseeing all marketing, sales, and communications activities, driving international strategy for emerging markets with a specific focus on Greater China.
Noah holds a Bachelor of Social Sciences in International Development and Globalization (Honours) with a minor in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa, partially completed at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, and has a certificate in Mandarin Chinese from Nanjing Normal University. Additionally, he has completed the Ivey Business School Certificate in Sales Management.

Grand Chief Edward John is a Hereditary Chief of Tl’azt’en Nation located on the banks of the Nak’al Bun (Stuart Lake) in Northern B.C. He is an Indigenous leader who has dedicated his life to the pursuit of social and economic justice for Canada’s Indigenous people, having worked as a leader in Indigenous politics, business and community development. Grand Chief John has been a lawyer for over 30 years. He holds a B.A. from the University of Victoria (UVIC), an LL.B from the University of British Columbia and Honorary Degrees from UVIC and the University of Northern BC.
Grand Chief John has served in many leadership roles at the local, provincial, national and international levels. He is a long serving elected member of the First Nations Summit political executive, which is mandated to carry out specific tasks related to Aboriginal Title and Rights negotiations with the governments of BC and Canada and other issues of common concern to First Nations in BC. He participated in the development of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in September 2007. He served a three-year term as the North American Representative to the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (January 2011 – December 2013) with a mandate to discuss indigenous issues related to economic and social development, culture, the environment, education, health and human rights.
Sarah joined the CCBC in 2007 and has since revitalized CCBC’s role as Canada’s premier bilateral trade and investment organization. Sarah has re-centered the Council’s activities around providing business services, catalyzing business growth and activity, and advocating for stronger Sino-Canadian bilateral trade and investment. This has resulted in extensive public outreach activities, internal infrastructure improvements, the launch of new programs such as the Business Incubation Centre, and thriving member relations.
Prior to joining CCBC, Sarah worked for 11 years in marketing, product development, and management with a major multinational corporation, where she had multiple assignments involving China. Sarah managed worldwide product businesses that marketed to China and used China-based sources of supply. She was also involved in several projects requiring cooperation with the Chinese government. Sarah has led both established and start-up businesses within the context of a global corporation and has broad emerging market business experience, and has been involved in the Greater China region since the late 1980’s when she lived and worked in Taiwan. There, she was the first non-Chinese employee of a local high-tech start-up firm, where she gained a deep understanding of Chinese business practices.
A fluent Mandarin speaker, Sarah’s interest in China began at the University of Wisconsin, where she studied Chinese, marketing, and international business. She holds an MBA in finance and operations from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester. She frequently speaks on China issues, including marketing, trade, investment, and Canada-China relations.

Wei SHAO is the national practice group co-leader for the Canada China Country Collaboration group and specializes in international business transactions focusing on China. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate and project financing, cross-border counseling, and general corporate and commercial transactions.
Wei has represented Chinese investors and entrepreneurs, sovereign and investment funds, private and public companies as well as major SOEs in various significant transactions in Canada, especially in natural resource and mining. Wei has also advised Canadian and international companies in natural resources, manufacturing, high-tech, environment, infrastructure and financial transactions in China. He has also provided legal advice to government agencies and diplomatic missions from both Canada and China. He is a frequent speaker at various conferences on matters related to investment in or from China.
Prior to his legal career Wei worked for the United Nations in New York. Wei is an interpreter accredited by the United Nations and by the federal government of Canada. As an interpreter or consultant, Wei has been involved in numerous ministerial and prime ministerial meetings or negotiations between Canada and China.
As Regional Director of Western Canada, Lotta is responsible for building the CCBC membership base throughout the region by connecting Canadian and Chinese businesses, promoting Canada-China bilateral trade, organizing events and supporting the delivery of member services. Lotta has over 10 years of marketing experience in the technology, marketing research, communications and art sectors. Prior to joining the CCBC, she was Marketing Manager at the China-Britain Business Council based in the UK, promoting trade and business with China and organizing high-calibre events involving the Chinese Premier and the Prime Minister of Great Britain.
Lotta spent several years living in China, where she studied and worked for a local company that developed products for the Chinese market. Lotta studied Mandarin at the University of Nanjing and Nanjing Normal University. She holds a BA in Chinese and BSc in Social and Economic Geography from Uppsala University, Sweden.
